On the 'Wing...

	ANNOUNCEMENT!	"On the 'Wing..." has appeared in RC Soaring Digest magazine since 1988. Over the intervening decade and a half, topics have included technical papers, candidates for scale models, computer programs to assist in the design of tailless aircraft, a multitude of reader projects, kit reviews, and construction articles. Each volume is a compilation of approximately 50 to 60 articles which have previously appeared in printed form within RC Soaring Digest magazine. The first two volumes were also available in printed book form. "On the 'Wing... the book," the first volume, is available as a single PDF file (13.7 MB) or as separate articles. The web-based index page for downloading the PDF files is at the OTW#1 index/links page "On the 'Wing... the book, Volume 2" is also available as a single PDF file (9.9 MB) or as separate articles. On the 'Wing... the book, Volume 2 is available at the OTW#2 index/links page. "On the 'Wing... the book, Volume 3," because of the larger file sizes, is available only as a series of PDF documents. You can download the articles individually by going to the OTW#3 index/links page. "On the 'Wing... the book, Volume 4" is is still "under construction." Articles to be placed in Volume 4 appear on the OTW#4 index/links page as they are published within the pages of RCSD. For those who do not want to spend the time downloading all of these files, we are making a CD-R available. This CD-R has all of Volumes 1, 2, and 3 on it, plus all of the articles from Volume 4 which have appeared in RC Soaring Digest.

	OTW INDEX	A complete index of all 200 plus "On the 'Wing..." articles on a single web page! The Index includes the article numbers and date of publication in RC Soaring Digest.

	KUBIAK PARAMETERS	This single PDF document has all four installments of a series on the interrelationships between the center of gravity, pitching moment, sweep angle, and design coefficient of lift. The Panknin methodology is used extensively to provide relevant examples. Originally published in RCSD during 1994 and 1995 to answer some questions asked by Bill Kubiak.

	PIONEER II-D	A PDF document describing our 1/4 scale Pioneer II-D. This column appeared in the March 1996 issue of RCSD and in "On the 'Wing... the book, Volume 2."

	Me P-1111	The P-1111 was Messerschmitt's entry in a 1944 design competition. The design is a sleek tailless swept wing jet powered fighter. Our model spans four feet and has flown successfully off Eagle Butte in Richland Washington. This article appeared in the April 1997 issue of RCSD.

	MB RAVEN PART 1 MB RAVEN PART 2 MB RAVEN PART 3 MB RAVEN PART 4	A four part series on the construction of a modified Model Builder Raven. This series was published during the latter part of 1999 and is part of "On the 'Wing... the book, Volume 3."

	TARANTULA	Michael St. John's "Tarantula" is a huge tailless glider designed for slope soaring. This article appeared in the March 1998 issue of RCSD and is reproduced here with full color photos as it appears in "On the 'Wing... the book, Volume 3."

	HORTEN H XIII	The Horten H XIII was perhaps the most unusual glider to come out of the brothers' workshop. The cockpit was an enclosed hanging gondola, and the wings were swept back at 60 degrees. This article includes a 3-view and an extensive table of dimensions and performance.The article originally appeared in the November 1998 issue of RCSD and is part of "On the 'Wing... the book, Volume 3."

	WING FENCES	One of the simple means for taming a "wild 'wing" is to install fences. This article, published in December of 2000 and included within "On the 'Wing... the book, Volume 3," explains how and why they work and gives some sample contours which have been used successfully.

	PANKNIN AIRFOILS?	Can the Panknin formulae be used to design efficient airfoils for plank planforms? Yes! This March 2001 RCSD article explains the logic and the process.

	BLACKBIRD 2M #7	Our seventh Blackbird, a two meter version, is the subject of this construction series. Lots of modifications to the original Dave Jones design are described in detail with loads of photos. Originally published as a four part series in 2000 and 2001. This article is also included within "On the 'Wing... the book, Volume 3."

	WEASELS!	Michael Richter produces the Weasel and miniWeasel, two EPP 'wings for slope soaring. This PDF document is a complete review of both kits with lots of photos. (156K)

	BLACKBIRD XC PART 1 BLACKBIRD XC PART 2 BLACKBIRD XC ADD.	The Blackbird XC.3 two-part construction series, Part 1 (667K) and Part 2 (443K). The latest Blackbird XC from Bill and Bunny Kuhlman has been getting rave reviews from all who've flown it. Bill and Bunny have written an addendum (79K) which outlines the final CG and tow hook locations, elevator compensation during flap deflection, and some recent flying experiences.
